2 weeks until surgery

My parents have encouraged me to put on a little bit of extra weight before my surgery. The doctors warned that patients often lose a significant amount of weight after the surgery. I'm already pretty thin, so the goal here is to not become Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables, or in other words, emaciated. I've been continuing my routine of going to the gym pretty much every day, but I have been a little more lenient with my food intake. I guess I should enjoy the foods I like while I can. I'll be tracking how my weight declines over the course of healing as well.

My mother is planning on buying a small marker board for me to use for communication after the surgery. Using bands that will connect to my braces, they will restrict my jaw movement after the surgery. I won't be able to open my mouth very wide, which will most likely result in me only being able to mumble. So we figured a marker board would be our best bet at me being understood.

I'm also planning on having a crunchy food party a few days before the surgery. I won't be able to eat anything crunchy for a while, so I figured I'd get my fix.

Keep checking back; the interesting things are yet to come! Thanks!

Hey there

I'm Shannon, and this is my surgery blog, which many people suggested I start to track the before and after of my surgery.

So, I'll most likely be posting pictures, nutrition info, and just whatever else I can think of.

Surgery information

On June 13th, I will be undergoing necessary corrective jaw surgery, which will also include necessary rhinoplasty and genioplasty (essentially, nose and chin augmentation.)

This procedure will be done by two different surgeons, and it is estimated to take 4-6 hours.

I will be staying overnight in the hospital one night and then another night in a hotel (the surgery is taking place about two hours away from where I live.)

So yeah, thanks in advance for reading my rambling posts and such!
